About Me

Rachel Johnson, RN, IBCLC

My journey into lactation began when I was studying for my undergraduate degree in Nutritional Sciences. When I look back, most of my school projects were based around maternal and child health… I could not get enough! After graduation I got my first real job at a WIC agency in Southern California. I was often asked for breastfeeding advice and I wanted to help but just didn’t know how. I was given an opportunity to take a basic breastfeeding course which was intended to be a four day training. After these four days I knew I couldn’t stop there. For the next 10 months I attended an IBCLC training at the University of California San Diego with clinicals in 5 different hospitals and several outpatient settings. I sat for my boards in the summer of 2008 and haven’t looked back!

My husband is a retired Marine, so I have a special place in my heart for military families. For 16 years his career took us to many places including California, South Dakota, and Japan. For this reason, I have had the opportunity to work with thousands of families and among many cultures over the years. Fun fact: while in California I learned to teach basic nutrition classes and counsel breastfeeding mothers in Spanish- don’t test my skills now though!

I have 3 wonderful children who courageously lived the military child lifestyle for many years. My oldest will go off to college soon which seems unimaginable - it really does go by in a flash! We enjoy spending time outdoors and you can often find us at the soccer fields on the weekends. We are truly enjoying our return to Oklahoma and finding all the new activities the metro area has to offer!

It is my mission for Nurture Lactation to be a place that you and your baby can come to for full support and encouragement along your breastfeeding journey. Learning to care for and raise our children was never meant to be a job that parents had to do on their own. Finding a solid support system makes all the difference and I’d love to be a part of yours!

Seek out the support you deserve.
